 The Department of Psychiatry, UniversityHospital Centre Zagreb, was established as an independent medical facility in 1971. Today it consists of the following divisions:►The Division of Integrative Psychiatry (31 beds) consisting of a day hospital team, outpatient units, psychologists, work therapists and a social worker.
►The Division of Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry (30 beds) consisting of a day hospital team, an outpatient unit, psychologists, work therapists and a social worker.
►The Division of Preventive and Social Psychiatry (18 beds) consisting of a day hospital team, an outpatient unit, the Crisis Intervention Centre (in collaboration with the Ministry of the Family, Veterans’ Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity) and an emergency unit.
The Department employs: 5 professors of psychiatry, 2 assistant professors, 2 head doctors, 10 PhDs and 5 BSs.
The staff comprises 31 specialists in psychiatry, 33 nurses, 13 registered nurses, 4 administrators, 4 psychologists, 3 work therapists and 3 social workers.
Apart from very intensive work with a constantly growing number of patients (in- and outpatients), the Department is the centre of very prolific scientific and educational activities.
The Department is the basic teaching facility at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb as well as the Health Polytechnic performing graduate and postgraduate studies in psychiatry and giving the possibility of residency in psychiatry of the longest duration and organizes specialist exams for candidates from all over Croatia.
Various expert and scientific projects and studies concerning new agents for treating mental diseases are conducted within the Department.
The Croatian Psychiatric Association has its office within the Department, which also publishes two eminent psychiatric journals: “Psychiatria Danubina” (editor: Prof. M. Jakovljević) and “Socijalna psihijatrija” (“Social Psychiatry”, editor: Prof. Lj. Hotujac).
Four national congresses of psychiatry and many other expert and scientific meetings were organized by the members of the Department.
