The Department of Psychological Medicine is Croatia's leading medical, scientific and educational psychotherapeutic institution as well as the leading institution for child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy. The Department offers educational programs in undergraduate and postgraduate studies within the University of Zagreb Medical School as well as programs of continuous education for medical doctors and other professionals in the field of mental health, especially nurses.
Inpatient Unit
In this unit there is a program of inpatient psychotherapy since there are many patients for whom this kind of treatment is indicated. Furthermore, there are numerous patients who do not have the possibility to get treatment as outpatients because of their distant domicile.

Outpatient Clinic
In this clinic the psychotherapeutic approach is based on the psychoanalytic theory. During the thirty years of the Clinic's and the fifty years of the Psychotherapy Unit's existence, the following psychotherapeutic techniques were crystallized: psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic therapy, group analysis, partner and family therapy, psychoanalytic psychodrama, hypnosis, autogenic training, short dynamic psychotherapy, liaison psychotherapy and various other non-analytic therapies.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit
In this unit diagnostic processes as well as the treatment and prevention of psychic disorders in children and adolescents are being conducted. The treatments in practice include: individual supportive or psychoanalytic psychotherapy, family psychotherapy, psychodrama or group psychotherapy, depending on indication. Specific for this department is psychotherapy of a couple mother-child, child psychotherapy, and individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy of adolescents and psychotherapeutic work with eating disorder patients.

Day Hospital for Adolescents
Treatment in this unit is based on daily individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy, group analytic psychotherapy twice a week. There are also group treatments conducted by a rehabilitator and a social pedagogue three times a week.
